Overview

Filesight is a web-based software product by Inmagik SRL that enables controlled distribution of files on the web, through a sharing system similar to a file explorer available on desktop systems.

The software allows you to share files and folders with external users either continuously (by creating users on the system) or by sharing links with a predefined validity period.

Anyone who has access to the files can download them to their device and, for about 50 file types, view the content directly in the browser, without having to use separate software.

File uploads and sharing options

Administrative users can easily create folders and upload files to Filesight with a simple web-based interface.

The software allows you to share folders containing files in two ways:

  • By creating user accounts in the Filesight portal (via an email invitation), to whom you can assign folder viewing permissions. These users must register on the site through a simple link sent by the system and choose an access password; they will then be able to access the system and view or download the files they are authorized to access.
  • By using a time-limited sharing link, which can be manually sent by email to the intended recipients. This method does not require user registration or access to the site.

File Previews

Filesight allows you to view the content of more than 60 file types directly in the browser, without needing to download the files and without using specific software.

Supported preview formats include:

  • PDF documents
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OpenOffice odt, ods, and odp formats.
  • text files
  • CSV
  • CAD in DXF format
  • geographic data in GeoJSON format
  • 3D models in various formats
  • images in various formats
  • audio and video in various formats.

Account types and permissions model

Filesight has two kinds of user accounts:

  • Administrators: users that manage files, permissions and accounts
  • Viewers: users that are only allowed to browse files.

In addition, for administrative users it is possible to define specific permissions about:

  • Files upload and management
  • Folders management
  • Accounts management
  • Groups (permissions) management
  • Advanced settings, such as email and storage configuration

Other features

Filesight is a complete solution, with other important features that will help you set up a secure file sharing platform:

  • user access is protected with additional measures: if a user fails to log in a number of times (configurable in the settings section), the user will be blocked for 10 minutes. This prevents brute-force attacks.
  • optional email sending integration: it's possible to configure an SMTP service for sending invites and password recovery links.
  • customization: Filesight is customizable with your logo to better match your brand identity.
  • automatic SSL certificate management: Filesight can automatically manage an HTTPS certificate for you.
